i have so many of these perler/hama beads that i've needed to do something with it. i used to have a different etsy store agesss ago with an assortment of things including pixelwears, but i closed that shop not long after i opened it. but inspiration has come again to re-open a new store to sell my ironed goods.

this is just the beginning. i have a super awesome pixel product in the making, but it's going to be some time before i unveil that one.

ben thinks sometimes i get too dressed up to go down to woolworths (this is tamer version of what i sometimes wear). but to be honest, it's really the only chance i get to dress up. i don't go out much. i am very much a stay-at-home-whatever. sometimes i'll wear my 4inch wedges. i go out now and then, like to shops or comedy shows/gigs but i don't go out out, like clubs and drinking. i don't mind so much if this is making me sound like a lame hermit who talks about herself.

but another part of it is that i like to make an effort when i go out. it confuses me when i go out somewhere (not just safeway, but shops) and i see people wearing daggy clothes and unbrushed oily hair. i never leave the house with sweatpants and if my hair looks oily i will wash it before i go out and dry it. i understand some people just don't have the time and i guess i have nothing but time.

the necklace i'm wearing is one that i've made myself. it's a prototype for the etsy shop and will be making an entrance at some point. if you can't wait that long email me and i'll get onto it quicker. the ring is from ebay. if i had a better camera i would take an awesome detail shot of it. it's gorgeous, it has a slight cave in it with tiny formed crystals. plus the purple dye is beautiful.

are you one for making sure you look decent before leaving the house, or you just throw on whatever you can not caring what it is?

this is what i wore yesterday to go shopping for some 'stay at home clothes'. i need a different set of clothes for going out (even grocery shopping) then when i sit at home because of sherlock. beagles are known to shed a lot, so i get covered in her hair quite quickly. PLUS she thinks she still fits in my lap for cuddles. our couch is covered in a blanket of the same colour to save the cushions and i never ever wear black inside. so stay at home clothes is pretty important for me, especially if i have visitors over. with winter coming it's even harder as i want to wear tracksuit pants and cheap baggy jumpers but i look like a hobo and i find appearance and making an effort very important to me, so it's hard to find something to wear when friends come over, or at the moment we have a friend staying for a while from japan.

so off to highpoint i went, in search for jeans and a decent hoody. now, let me tell you, i hate jeans. i have 2 pairs at the moment that i wear in and out of rotation, depending on how much take away i eat... but i am very very much a tights and skirt/dress/shorts kind of person. always tights. so me not particularly liking the long denims, i tend to be very picky. all in all, i found nothing. at all. the thing i hate most about trying to find jeans is that SO many of them have that retarded hip horse riding thing going on. bah. i don't need to look fatter than i am.

so here i am now wearing leggings in black with white hairs and a jumper. well and a cotton cheap dress from target. because we all know leggings aren't pants.

i have a strange affinity to buying jewelry. i say strange because i don't actually wear any. i wear some time to time, now and then, mostly just some statement necklaces but otherwise, they all just sit in my ikea tree looking pretty. i've come to gradually realise this over the years and have toughened down on what i buy. i used to get a whole heap of cheap assortments of things but never ever wore them, because that's what they were, cheap and thus never looked nice. now i buy more in investment pieces, ones that stand out, not necessarily with a hefty price tag, but ones that i will knowingly feel special in, like i've made that extra effort.

the above photos are an assortment of things i've gotten over the past year or so and naturally all from etsy. i find that being a handmade site, i will always find something new and unique with reasonable prices.

1. a ceramic skull ring from mixko. this was made in limited edition so none of these are available anymore in this style. they do although have some left over with rhinestones in their eyes, which i personally thought was a bit distracting. they also had at one point a baby doll head ring in ceramic which was creepy but slightly calming.

2. a beautifully crafted copper cuff from jewelstreet. i fell in love with this one straight away and asked if it was possible to reserve it. she was awesome enough to say yes (that's another thing about etsy, they are all so lovely). i prefer silver, which she said she would be able to make up if i wished, but i couldn't afford it at the time as it was quite a bit more. but i had to have this cuff no matter what colourway it is.

3. this piece is amazing. i love it because as a child i used to love collecting the christmas beetles in qld where i used to live. but now in vic i haven't seen one at all, so this was a great way of showcasing them. also because it has been set in resin you can import it as it comes from the usa. it was made by kolosstudios. they have a wonderful selection of pieces and if bugs isn't your thing, they have cast other things in resin also.

4. super cute faux moss ring from adornjewelry. i was jealous for a while when i found this because in the states they have such a cute variety of moss jewelry and of course with import customs i would never be able to own such a thing, until i came across this. i thought it was so clever because it will also never die. i got quite a lot of complements when i wore this and it was fun to play with while bored as well as the texture is nice.

5. this necklace was so amusing when i stumbled across it and i laughed for a while then bought it straight away. i felt very gansta. haha. it comes from nat1489 and is still available. i love wearing it. i still find it amusing and i got it quite some time ago.

6. this is one of the most recent purchases. well ben got it for me for my birthday. it was handcrafted by jewelerjim and he's super! the ring wasn't in my listed size but he remade it all for me again with no extra charge. it is such a beautiful ring and looks amazing on. i've worn this ring a lot more then some of my rings i've owned for over year, but i've only had this one for over a month. he has such beautifully designed pieces in his store, some way out of my price range, but still amazing. if only.

another thing i love about etsy, is that, if a piece isn't in a limited edition collection, it will still be there months to come, if the seller sees fit to continue making it. compared to consumer fashion, where it's there one week and gone the next, never to be seen again. this is one strong ill wishing emotion i have towards it. ben will say something like, think about, next time, or i will want to check out my bank balance and then when i want to get it, it's gone. the amount of times it has happened to me it's not funny. especially in this year alone, where i have only done online shopping, then it's open to the world and not just the locals. so i'm very close to learning my lesson, if i love it, wait a day or two, then get it. if money permits. oh how money pains me.

FINALLY, finally, finally gotten around to taking photos of my necklaces to post up on etsy. it's been quite some time. i did take some a few weeks ago, inside, at night, with some bright lights but it made everything orange and not even photoshop could fix it. so i gathered up all my motivation for the month and took them today. i've only uploaded a few for the moment, as spreading them out over time makes for the best exposure.

the set of necklaces above is my metamorphosis series. the center necklace is the base then you buy the attachments separate to suit your mood, mix and match. i was quite pleased with myself when i thought of this one. plus it means not having to spend lots of money on buying a new necklace each time. so far i only have the two turquoise nugget attachments shown here, but there will be quite an assortment to come.

the necklace im wearing in this photo is one yet to be released. it is made from the most beautiful faceted druzy agate in a wonderful navy colour. i bought two lots of these beads lengths before i even started using them. i adore them so much. this one is my own, as i said in my previous post, i make them then end up keeping them myself. but luckily i have still quite a few leftover so it will be making an appearance in my etsy store.

i will also be updating my photos on my already existing cuffs plus adding some new colours i have made up. plus some limited edition ones (they have vintage heart shaped studs on them, available in limited quantity....minus the ones i keep for myself...)

for as long as i can remember i've had a love for druzy and agate slices alike. i remember when i discovered them and found it such a treat when i could buy one or two at the new-age healing stone faerie shops (you know the ones) when i went to the mall with my mum and grandma for the movies and shopping. i still have those somewhere, in a box. but my love for them has re-surfaced and i can't get enough.

i've been trawling ebay and etsy to find supplies of them wholesale so i can make my own necklaces, for my own use and for sale on rupert&sherlock. the trouble with this is that, each stone is unique and different, so you will never ever be able to have them all. a bit like pokémon. i am constantly finding new ones that amaze me and make me need to buy them, otherwise someone else will and it, will then obviously, not be mine. which is not an option. i find them ever so much more fascinating than diamonds, to my partners approval (he doesn't really agree with the whole diamond thing).

i have a small collection at the moment of both slices and the geodes but am at a loss at how to use them. i want to make it a bit more interesting then just linking them on some chain as a pendant. i've made one so far that i adore, but the problem is, i now keep it for myself. quite a few necklaces i've made with the intention to sell, ends up on a hook in my bedroom instead and with agate it's even worse because there's only ever one of that style... another issue is that a lot of my slices aren't drilled but i haven't quite managed to drill them myself yet. i tried one form of drillbit with no results, so now i'm waiting for some new ones from china. bunnings has nothing and they referred me to a hobby shop and i assume that would cost a bit of money. no thanks. i need all my money to buy stones. as some of them can end of costing quite a bit. especially at the quantities i want to buy them...

sooooo. it's been a while. quite some while. i tend to do that. i have a very short attention span. my mother always hated that. by the time i got to early teens she kind of gave up on me. in a sense that when i wanted to start new things, she would say why bother? cause i would just end up quitting them early anyway. which is fair enough on her end cause i'm sure all the jazz ballet, trampoline acrobats, piano lessons ended up costing lots of money in the end. i remember when i was in high school i wanted to join basketball. but she said i would just quit but i'm stubborn so i wanted to prove her wrong. geez, was that hard. first of all the other girls playing in the team were the 'a-group girls' of high school where i didn't fit in. then i never had my own top. for some reason when they ordered in new ones for the season i just didn't get one, so i had to either borrow one from the team that played before us in the younger grade, or find a yellow or white shirt. bullshit. then because i wasn't 'one of them' i never got passed the ball, regardless if i was open. BUT i stuck it through, i don't even remember where we placed, that's how involved i was in it by the end. funniest thing though once, i went with my two best guy friends and i didn't have a uniform, he although had a yellow shirt. so being the wonderful guy he is, he let me borrow his shirt during the game, while he wore my shirt! the buttons were pulling across his chest and he couldn't move his arms much. bless him.

but i digress. i knew this would happen with the blog. i tried to make myself post regularly, but i just can't, it's not who i am. and i have lots and lots of time on my hands, i'm at home everyday. but, i have some hope. i've come back to it. which is a good sign. i also have lots and lots of things to update with seeing i've been gone for so long. i've made tons of necklaces and my cuffs have picked up also. I made lots of purchases to show off, mainly all online from the UK. i've actually made like 4 orders from asos.com in the past month or something. addicted.

a quick timeline of the past 2 months and time for some photos. too much text is daunting when i go on other blogs.

february - fairly, umm, boring? nothing happened much. saw taking back sunday and jimmy eat world. they were both fairly amazing.

march - received a big wholesale order for my cuffs, 60 of them. i was so happy and joyed that i was able to do something with my time and that my cuffs were getting out there. they went to the states, then onto europe for a show, i can't wait until i receive a response on how it all went. was also my birthday. went and saw alice in wonderland, was a bit disappointed, lots to say about it, but not the time. oh, saw owl city at the hifi. loved it so much. great production, i thought it was just going to be adam onstage, but he had 2 strings, 2 keyboardists one of them a guitarist and a drummer. it was beautiful, hes also adorable.

april - less busy, saw frank woodley and david o'doherty for the melb comedy festival. and just spring cleaning, in the wrong hemisphere.

i've made lots of necklaces to post up on etsy, but i'll dedicate a post on that when i photoshop the images, cause they are all yellow from the camera. bah.

my new planter endeavour.

the above photo is one part of my bookcase. i love it. the rabbit is a collection of three and comes from the local gift store, cactus jam. although i'm sure you can find them other places, or could have as i got them quite some time ago. they are adorable. i love rabbits. i used to own a rabbit. but i had to let him go because he chewed power chords and attacked sherlock. he is much happier now at a farm (i'm serious about the farm, it's not a metaphor). the tiger is from the melbourne zoo.

for a while now i've been trying to buy flowers from bunnings and put them in pots and have them in my study to brighten it up. one word can sum up my efforts.

fail.

which brought me to the realisation that i've had a rather large cactus in my study for over a year now and it stayed alive and looks perfectly healthy, even though for about half a year it was neglected and forgotten about. quite seriously. i stopped using my study during winter (and we know that melbourne winter lasts nearly all year long...) so it lived next to the window, trooping on. so it clicked. i'll buy cactus's from now on, surely i can't fail at that (although i have killed cactus's in the past). so i did. so the cute little cactus in my photo (which looks like it's frosted) now lives in a cute teapcup i bought from the cheap shop. i also bought a ramekin which looks like a cupcake patty pan thing and in it lives another cactus. one of those albino grafted cacti. it's a red one, so it kind of looks like a candle.

which now brings me to the point of my story. i thought. wow. that's cute. i wonder what else. then i remebered that i've always wanted one of those donkey pulling the cart planters you find in the front yards of old ladies. i've always thought they were so cute. so i searched my favourite site etsy and i found a plethora of vintage planters. so many of them were little lambs. as cute as they were, i got a little sick of seeing them. i opened up the ones i thought were the cutest and contacted the sellers for international shipping. at this point, i got quite annoyed (and defeated even before i started collecting them) as a few of them replied that they don't ship internationally. one because theres no tracking. although there is, even signatures are required, but this lady was stubborn so no point argueing. another because it was too complex to quote accurate shipping. although a few days later she replied with a shipping quote because more of her items were inquired about so she went to the post office, so that worked out nicely. there's also a lot of sellers who just don't reply. fair enough you might be busy, but i want to give you my money... in the end these are the three i bought.

the donkey cracks me up. ben said it reminds him of pinnochio when he realises he has turned into a donkey. the horse was because it was so unique. the lamb because it was the cutest one and cheapest one available. i've spent so much money lately i couldn't spend too much and with shipping it really hurts the budget. sometimes i wish i didn't live in australia. but bens stepmum is an oppshop guru, so i think i might ask to go out with her one time and go searching. she loves it so much and i love hearing how excited she gets with her buys, some of them truly are amazing. i'm a noob with oppshops, i'm also a bit closed minded on them as well, to bens dismay. but it was just the way i was brought up.

i can't wait until they arrive so i can shove cactus's in their backs. which reminds me of the hyena's in the lion king. i wish they came as a planter.

i've decided to pull down my preious post on the new jeffrey campbell wedges that was a collaboration with Emily.L, winner of the lookbook.nu competition. i believe i went a little hard on my post but i still do believe what i wrote, just that i probably shouldn't of posted it in my moment of grumpyness. i tend to do that a lot, get passionate about something i do or do not believe in, write it out, email someone, forum post (i have banned myself from forums), then realise afterwards that if i took the chance to calm down a little, what i wrote wouldn't of been so heated and in turn possibly insult someone. which doesn't help anyone.

so. once again. in a nicer way, here are the new jeffrey campbell wedges, c'est moi.

you can buy them exclusively on needsupply.com and are only US$135. i'm pretty sure i'll be getting them in black. i've been looking for a pair of studded heels for quite some time now and since i've also recently pledged to only buy wedges, i think i've found my pair. also knowing that the 2 other jeffrey campbells i own are comfortable, i'm pretty positive these will be too as they are only a 3" rise. i still feel though that i should mention as winner of the competition, Emily.L, won a collaboration with jeffrey campbell to make her dream shoe. her entry into lookbook.nu and needsupply.com's competition is a photo post with a pair of baby blue (they look beige) flats from topshop that are pretty much identical to the c'est moi. in her entry she writes: "I love these cus theyre so pretty, and the faded blue, almost denim colour works with almost everything. As much as i love heels, these are so much more practical, and studs make any outfit look better. They are my perfect shoes." i could say quite a few things thats wrong with this, but i won't. i'll leave that up for you to ponder on. this is also where i leave this before i once again start ranting.

i've been making A LOT of necklaces lately. i've found a style that i am working with and change it depending on the beads/stones i am using. i have some new stones in the mail that i'm excited about and can't wait to get creative with.

although. i have a problem. i'm too neat. i need to make sure that everything looks balanced when draping my chains and make sure that things are symmetrical and hang just right. yeah it's good in some ways so the piece is aesthetically pleasing in some sense. but i find that when looking at other pieces using the same sort of stones, i gravitate towards the messier necklaces. ones with no boundaries, ones that arent balanced, ones that don't use all silver and mix up the colours and stones in a way i would find blasphemous. i look at these necklaces and began to think i really wish i could let go of rules and make ones such as these. i know i can't. so i start thinking of a way i can save my money to buy them instead because they really are amazing necklaces and i know i can't do it myself.

they are a beautiful mess of chain that makes me want to pull them off my screen and wear them now. plus i've always loved larger statement necklaces. i have found over the years that single chain necklaces with a small charm on them just dont fit in with what i wear or how i look. larger bib sort necklaces on the other hand look a lot better on me, i think it might be due to my round face. so it kind of balances out my upper body area or something. i also wear more simpler tops so it makes for a good addition to an outfit. also the colour really pops as a lot of my clothing is black.

in the end i think my need for these necklaces i've shown is largely due to the fact it's something i cannot do. something that is beyond me that makes it very wantable. kind of like something you can't have. but it's not only due to the fact i can't be messy, it's also because they are a beautiful collection of stones collaborated with the chain to make a perfect mess of awesome. even if i could be messy i would still very much love these necklaces and i hope i can own them myself before someone else buys them. they were only listed just a few days ago.

introducing chester.

this is the chester series. chester is the name of the style and it will essentially be the same length of chain with different stones and the threading of the smaller chain will be different each time, or the same depending if it's any easier to follow a previously made one. although at the moment i have no more chain to thread with so i have to order it in bulk from the states as spotlight doesn't have any. i'm pretty happy with the outcome and also how it is so versatile in the sense of being able to have different gemstones each time. most of the time i will have two of each kind as the 16" strands (which is the standard to buy gemstones as) can accommodate two necklaces.

this will be up on etsy by the end of the weekend, as it's now nearly 3am and taking photos in sunlight isn't really possible right now. i used a mirror to reflect more light onto the necklace in the photos above. pretty clever.

i also have another necklace i have designed and that will also be up on etsy soon. exciting times. if only we have more than one neck to adorn with handmade goods with. maybe one for drinking with and one for eating with then maybe another for breating with, so then we don't get things down the wrong one and choke. genius.

turquoise chain necklace

i told you i would re-do the turquoise necklace. it was quite a feat taking it apart and untangling the mess of chain. but i got there. then i redid the mess. but better. i'm letting it go on etsy and madeit as i'm still really picky at how the turquoise doesn't sit straight. i don't remember if i mentioned that previously or not. doesn't matter. it doesn't affect the aesthetic of it, i just don't personally like it. although, if the stones did sit right then i would keep it, as i don't have enough stones to make another. but i am looking into buying round stones. they will sit right. so hopefully it sells and it can fund more necklace adventures. buy it. now. thanks

happy belated new years. ..

i'm not a new years person and luckily neither is ben, so i don't get dragged along somewhere. especially this year since it was raining with the prospect of cancelled fireworks due to lightning storms. i have never gone out anywhere to do something 'exciting and fun' for new years while living in melbourne, it's also a mix of that i'm not much of a crowd person (unless it's a music festival of sorts because you can't get yelled at for shoving people out of the way and there's no prams).

so ben and i stayed at home and watched some films. more exciting then new years for 2007 when i was reading a magazine at home. i've celebrated more new years in brisbane with fireworks while living in melbourne, then i have actually in melbourne. but the storm this new years was nice. it was amazing having the cool change after a 30-something degree day. then when it started raining it was like ice and i had to retire inside. where it was STILL hot and had to keep the portable air con on. insane. brick houses need to learn to expel their heat.

while i was happily snapping the clouds, one particular photo freaked me out. especially since it was only visible via camera lense and not my real eyes.

you can see that right. creepy isn't it.

now onto serious two thousand ten stuffs. two oh oh nine is over and i'm glad. it didn't really being me much in forms of life altering experiences. i'm also not that fond of saying that the new year will hopefully bring me something, blah blah, because it's not like 2010 has a completely different agenda or formula for the human life. in a way it's what we make of it and i'm not really giving myself much of a headstart with such cynicism. i also don't make resolutions. i have a hard time keeping promises to ben, why would i do it for myself. i'm also a firm believer of not making promises if i know i have the chance of not doing so. it's a form of lieing. the one thing i hope 2010 brings me is a new house to live in. who do i write to for that? new years needs to have some sort of mascot. christmas has santa, easter has the bunny.

this post is long over due. it's been more than a week, i admit i haven't been posting as much as i was when i started. but that seems to be a habit of mine. i start something new and interesting, i go crazy with it, then it dies away when i see the next new shiny thing. short attention span. having a non-addictive personality has it's pros and cons. pros - i dont smoke nor drink. cons - i'm sure i cost my mother a pretty penny when i swapped from jazz ballet to piano lessons and something else as a child and now ben with all my crafty ventures. although i will admit i have stuck with the crafty-ness, albiet a range of different crafts (in which i need to purchase new materials) but still craft all the same. yay for me. it's progess.

which brings me to my newest projects. i've been lusting over the jeffrey campbell 99's for a while. also the alexa wedge à la acne atacomas. because i know i would never be able to afford the atacomas. when i found stock of the 99's on needsupply.com (half the price of what someone on ebay was selling them for), i kept my eye on them. when i saw that 4 of the sizes already sold out, not mine thank god, i clicked 'add to cart' along with a 'funktional' necklace and some happy socks.

so i'm pretty excited and i can't wait until they arrive in my post box. the next day the 99's sold out of another 3 or 4 sizes, so they only have size 8 left. but what i'm trying to get at is, when i was showing ben my prospective buys he asked if i could just make that necklace myself. it doesn't seem that hard. it's just a bunch of chain messed around. right? well if you have slight ocd in the form of, everything needs to be organised and symmetrical, then it's not as easy as a bunch of mess. i gave it a go, but because i'm always trying to have it balanced it was harder than i thought to complete an 'unorganised' mess aesthetic. plus i wasn't quite sure how i would keep the chains from moving around from my strategically placed loops and drops. my first attempt, i will admit, was kind of pathetic. so when i bought the shoes, i also bought the necklace.

as you can see its dramatically different to the funktional one. but i didnt want mine so long and i used turquoise (it matches the socks). as you can also see its pretty pathetic. the chains move around and it's no where near symmetrical which annoys me a bit. but the most annoying bit is that the chains move around too much, so it clumps together in places. i have although figured out a solution to this while i was attemping my second necklace tonight.

i love moonstone. it's one of my favourite gemstones. that and turquoise. it's needless to say that i will be taking apart the turquoise one and re-doing it completely, to something more like this one. it's not a simple task. this took me close to 2 hours, i guess if i wasn't so pedantic about how each chain falls and where, it wouldn't take as long. but it's attention to detail that really ends up making the necklace work as a whole. my mum and i bought those moonstone beads like 2 or 3 years ago at a yearly bead expo they have somewhere in eastern melbourne, so it's about time i used them. i have enough left to make another one of these that will be going on etsy. but i need to get new chain first, it's amazing how much chain goes into it.

well i think that's it on this topic. i'll be writing up another post about how its twothousandten next. i have a feeling i was going to say something else, but the mac decided to bring down the grey curtain of death and make me restart, so i've forgotten. thanks steve. i also think the length of this post makes up for the lack of posts.

went to spotlight today to find some sort of stiff backing for my octavia necklace. got some interfacing, success. so i'll be finishing that up tomorrow, plus i added some extra chains to it and it looks heaps better. so stay tuned for them on etsy! also decided to buy some wool to make pompoms for my head. cause thats clearly the only place pompoms belong.

hot glued onto a barette clip. since they are so simple, quick and cute i might put them up on sale on etsy for cheap. i saw one on there that's slightly smaller and it was US$10 ! crazy. plus i don't have the patience to knit, so i have lots of wool now that i need to use.

i also don't intentionally hide my face in my photos, just so happens the better photos are where my face isn't actual shown properly (plus it's more artistically creative.... or something). our photo up there in the side bar has my full face, so i'm not shy.

well. i still havent finished my redecorating. i'm kind of stuck on where to go from here. but i will say that the only reason i'm redecorating is because the jeffrey campbell clinic shoes fell through (possibly cause of a dodgy ebay seller) so i spent all my money at ikea instead. with still more to buy. oh ikea, i should be a stock holder.

wore that the other day to go to the op shop to buy some little golden books for a project i'm doing. i only found one though. so ebay is my friend and ive got a few more. but those shoes i'm wearing are new i got from the states. they are super tall (they don't look it in the photo but they are close to 5" with a platform). the highest shoes i own. they defy my gravity skills plus they also exaggerate every bump and slope in the uneven footpaths. they are also half a size too big (ssshhh don't tell ben) but cause of the straps it's no real problem. i also look like i'm dancing with myself. la la la.

to the left is a new prototype for a necklace i'm working on. its got a leather backing with, well obviously chains. i think it's a bit lacking and needs more chains. it also doesn't stay very flat and that, i need a stiff backing on it. don't know what to use yet though. so i'm going to work on that tomorrow. or something. i believe i have too many projects to do at once.

just cause it's funny that someone went to the effort to wash the jar out then return it to the shelf.

just a super quick hello because otherwise my next post isn't going to be for a while. i'm redecorating my study area, so i guess this is a procrastination post. but i also wanted to share with you my new purchase/delivery. i've been waiting to buy these shoes for AGES. they are vintage pumps from etsy and the seller went on holiday for nearly two months when i was going to buy them. but they are finally mine! such an amazing bright pink colour. i have to wear socks or stockings with them cause the toecap bit is not large enough and you can see my toes.

i don't like it when you can see toes in closed toe'd shoes. it makes the shoe look too big or makes your toes look really squished and fat. blargh.

i have a story.

i went to the post office to post off my first sale on my rupert&sherlock leather cuffs (how excitement). the line was fairly long for such a small post office. i noticed one of the ladies inside had a walking stick, she was older, maybe late 40's (i say older because i'm only 23 and clearly anything over 30 is older for me, i don't mean she was 'old') and she was larger in size as well (which is only exaggerated by the tiny tiny space in between the aisles there). so there she is, standing in line with her walking stick and what type of shoes does this lady wear? wedge heels. i thought this to be highly irresponsible, considering she had a walking stick. we all know we are not meant to wear heels blah blah, but surely she must know that heels would not be beneficial or aiding her in any way while having some sort of reason for a walking stick. it wasn't the sort of walking stick you get prescribed for an injury, it was a hooked old man's type of walking stick. one that you use for an indefinite amount of time, like the rest of your life indefinite. plus she already had a prominent hump from slouching, i gather, her whole life. i know this must sound like one big bitch session, but some people are too irresponsible these days and we really need to look after ourselves better. and if something was to come up, to take care of it and not hinder it. at least she was smart enough not to be wearing louboutins. then again i could be completely wrong and those shoes are actually more comfortable for her.

alexander mcqueen for his spring 2008 collection. yes i know it's old and was presented in october of 2007, but that doesn't lessen its relevance or amazing-inity of it. personally, i don't like the print and colours of the middle dress but that's cause i'm not much of a crazy print person. i tend to stay true to my florals and plaid. although the feather detail of the dress on either end, is just superb. it looks out-there but demure at the same time. i think that might be because of the colour palette and the partly sombre expression of the model, natasha poly. it's divine none-the-less.

they're not as avant garde as mcqueen, but that's a good thing for us everyday folk. the two shrugs/capelets/collars are still pretty statementy when it comes to feathers. i love them so much, especially how it's black with an iridescent/oil lustre through the tips. the blackness of it means it's more versatile and easier to pull off. i'm looking at buying the feathers as-is and making one of my own. works out to be cheaper and it will be more special that way. then the two peacock pieces in the middle, are well, just beautiful. i can't ever really go past peacock feathers. they truely are the most majestic in the bird world.

went to spotlight because i'm a self sadistic fool. i saw a belt on shopbop.com by fiona paxton and didn't want to pay $400 for it, plus the style didn't really appeal to me but the concept did. so i decided i wanted to try and make one myself. stupid. it's a waisted belt, made from bugle beads. you know those tiny long beads (tiny long.. makes sense. kind of). they are all sewed one next to the other to make a pattern. when at spotlight i realised how many beads i would have to get to make it, so i'm going to test it out in a miniature cuff sized version first. see how long it takes and whether it will be possible to do a belt version. i think i'm going away to the parents' farm over christmas so i'll have tons of time then, seeing as there's nothing else to do on an olive grove.

it's pretty definite for me that my favourite nail lacquer (la di dah) is revlon. their coating is superb. no need for a second or third coat if you are in a rush. it goes on fairly opaque, compared to other cheaper brands. i bought a mint green bys nail colour the other day, the first coating was so clear, i couldn't be bothered finishing the rest. the colours above are from no specific range, just the ones i liked or own myself. i have the plum seduction which is actually new from their spring selection and it was two weeks before it started chipping. usually my colour chips in less than a week. i was amazed.

looking at these colours more closely it reminded me of a designer i so adore. you probably know from the post title, or just because you can see the colour palette as well. marc jacobs. more specifically the marc by marc jacobs spring ready to wear 2010 collection.

you can see the connection right? i love marc jacobs, i particularly love that he isn't afraid to use bolds and short skirts for his fall collections. the collection above that presented at new york in september was nothing short of bold. the juxtaposing patterns and contrasting colours was all very confident. some of the patterns dabbled into the 'tribal' look that is growing and said to of started in louis vuittons' fall 2009 show. although it was more shown in their accessories, bags and shoe range rather than prints. these said shoes are now available in a myriad of stores by different brands.

the colour palette in this show is also shared with some of his fall 2009 show. which is case and point to what i wrote earlier about not being scared to use colour in fall, where it's mostly drowned with greys and blacks. fall and winter is always sad for me because i don't wear browns or greys but weather wise it's my favourite season. i dress like marc jacobs would want me to dress, in bold tights, skirts, bright cardigans and a leather jacket. i dress like this all year round actually. then again being in melbourne, it's like a twelve month long winter. awesome.

got these in the mail today! from the uk. they arrived so quick. i don't usually expect things from the uk for like 3 weeks, but i'm not complaining! they are my first tan shoes, my first sandal shoes AND my first platform shoes. for going out on a limb and trying something new, i am so happy with them! they are sooooo comfortable, it's like walking on marshmallows. i could've said clouds, but to walk on said clouds you would have to be really high up in the sky which would render you breathless and you would just fall. for a long time. whereas you can walk on marshmallows to make the comparison. althought i haven't. but i do know microwaving marshmallows on chocolate biscuits is amazing. anyway. they are so comfy i was so suprised. i got told to shut up numerous times from ben... oops.

then going into ninewest because of the 50% off signs adorning the window, i came across these beautiful shoes. when they first came out a few months ago i thought they only came in green and i'm not really a green person BUT they come in black! yay. AND they had my size. amazing. so with ben being also amazing he bought them for me for christmas. boo. i have to wait.

ok. so i started on this a lot sooner than i thought i would. i usually use the weekends for my sewing. but thanks to summer programming, i had nothing better to do. don't get me started on what they've replaced M*A*S*H with.... ALSO, we have recently aquired the ps3 playtv, which records shows, pauses tv and all that. it's amazing (playstation, please forward me an endorsement cheque). so watching tv when it's actually on tv, is no longer a need. if i must sew, i can watch it later, plus ben has a really really bad habit of talking during the only 2 or 3 shows i watch religiously... now i can PAUSE, let him babble on and then watch him walk away during the ads.

SO, my clutch. after all my brainstorming yesterday or the day before.. i cut out all my pieces today (well i didn't actually cut out all the pieces, as you can tell that the strap and buckle part of the design is missing) and then proceeded to figure out how they should all go together. although the design looks fairly simple, it was more complicated than i thought as i have a problem sometimes putting things on backwards cause i loathe working off proper bought patterns and instructions. i much much prefer making things up as i go. i have tons of patterns i've bought from lincraft and such but i've never actually finished any of them, or started. i really thought i was going to stuff up the zip/inside zip pocket bit but i managed to pull that off nicely, cept the stitching isnt quite straight.. at one point i thought i completely messed it all up because the bottom of it all wasnt lining up when it was inside out. flipping it the right way round and everything was fine. because i completely forgot about the strap and buckle, i put in the pyramid studs instead. i think it looks pretty cool with the pastel teal colour. sewing the inside lining was difficult, as i think i shouldv'e sewed that in before sewing it all together. so the inside seams are a bit scruffy, but it's inside so you can't see it.

ummmm. i think that's about it. it's turned out better than i thought for a first sample but i'll definitely have to work on it if i want to put them up in my etsy store (need more leather!). which is actually up now! you can find my things at rupertandsherlock.etsy.com . i have a few cuffs up in different colours, headbands and clutches/bags to follow. i think as well as making the proper achimedes with buckle, i'll do a range with the pyramid studs. i'm also currently working on a design for a larger bag which will prove to be my downfall.

going to see ted e bears farewell tour tomorrow night(well technically tonight). should be good fun. i'll use my new clutch, take it out for a test drive.

with all the leather i have (plus the more i'm getting), i've decided to move on from the cuffs and try out clutches. i actually tried making a wallet last night but didn't realise how tedious it is. bah. i'm definitely now not going to think $100 for a wallet is crazy. i think it's definitely well worth it. i would much rather pay the money then try my hand at wallet making again. especially since my puppy is a notorious wallet eater, i would cry if i spent all that time sewing for it to just become her toy.

also my downfall for yesterday was because i didn't sketch out a design, or anything at all really. i was just cutting out shapes and hoping they would all go together (which they did, just ended up being really thick with all the card slots for it to sew together). soooooo today i've fixed both my problems. ditching the wallet, to make a clutch, sketched out the design and all the components. yay.

well the above picture is the first drawing of the archimedes. so now comes the construction. for another day....

free gift worth a trillion million dollars.

ive got my fair share of free gifts from magazines. do i use them? no. actually i've used one. a free sample size of chanels mascara. beautiful. which i then went out and bought the real thing.

but what i'm trying to get to is that most of these 'free gifts' have a ridiculous price next to the designers name. most of them are tote bags. i dont use totebags myself, they just happen to be sealed with the magazine i want to buy. they are then removed, looked at then put aside. ive found them now and then behind the couch. these tote bags are usually super creased with poor sewing. even if i did buy tote bags i wouldn't pay the money they say its worth at its home store. which then brings me to this months free gift with cleo. a one teaspoon sports watch.

it comes in white or hot pink. i chose the white one as its more versatile. the band is from molded plastic, so just like its tote bag counterparts its been set into shape from its packaging. so it doesnt sit flat on the wrist, it sticks out on both sides. i've been trying to bend it back into shape to no avail. it looks quite odd when wearing it, it's essentially non-wearable. the clasp is actually pretty sturdy, it wont come apart easily, or at all because of the mechanism it uses. the price they claim it to be worth is $59.95. but with the condition it's in, it should be classed as a faulty item, as if it was bought instore it would be returned. i know i may sound cynical about it all, because some people might think, it's free why are you complaining, but it's moreso the fact that is just a piece of plastic, that most likely wont be worn by all the people who get one (because its bent out of shape) and it will just be put aside and eventually thrown out. its a waste. a waste of energy to produce and a waste of the companies money as a promotional item. this doesnt make me want to go out and see what one teaspoon has to offer. it's quite the opposite, it makes me think that they have other shoddy items for sale if they didn't quite take so much care in their promos. it's free, i know but its just disconcerting that we all take consumerism so lightly. this is where i would insert a preach about consumerism vs third world countries but we have all heard it before.

so sore. ive been playing around with the leathers i bought and today decided to branch out with a new concept. i googled images of art deco necklaces and wanted to transfer that into a leather neck piece. i think the concept is nice and something that i didnt really find on google. which was good, cause it meant i'm delving into something new and exciting! oh my! well. i drew up a couple designs and focused on one of them then went to cutting it from my leather. using a scalpel on tough leather is not really something i would enjoy doing on an everyday basis. but it is necessary to get clean cuts. using double sided tape to hold the pieces down onto its backing, i went to sewing. because my pieces were small and to get close to the edge, i had to hand turn the needle the whole way through. fun times. well i spent a good part of the day hunced over my machine and this is my finished prototype:

im pretty happy with the outcome. theres a few things i need to work out. like the stitching. as most of you would know, you need to back stitch on garments to lock the thread in. i can't do it with this as it bulks up a part of the thread and doesnt match the rest of the border. i think ive got a solution for this, but its really tedious. need to clean up the lines on the sections aswell. the chain hanging out from the left is where you adjust the length of it.

statement necklaces are in. but i havent seen any like this. im on to something here. arent i? why not. once ive perfected this it will be up for sale on my etsy store.

ah the rain. i welcome it with both arms and the arms of anyone else in reach. and yours. it's been quite hot here in melbourne and it's been awful. the rain is wonderful, it's cool, it's refreshing and it smells good. also gives you the best excuse to stay inside. ben and i have joked previously that it's the perfect gamers weather.

i recently bought a whole heap of leather to make some cuffs, bows for headbands, clips, etc and some clutches. i got inspired from a leather cuff i saw on etsy and ben asked if i could just make it myself. so instead of paying $40 + postage from the US for a cuff, i spent a substantial amount more on some australian leather. the colours are divine and the leathers so soft. so today because it was raining and the weekend (i actually stay inside on most occassions, i just think its a good excuse), i moved my sewing machine into the lounge room (so i can simultaneously catch up on gossip girl) and got to creating.

this is my mess:

i have the most basic sewing machine (as it was my first and didnt want to spend heaps on something i mighn't of used much) but it does everything i need. ben bought it for me at a mothers day sale (i have pets, that counts, right?) at a local store, with owners who are amazing. she gave me a quick how to and said i could come back for help with sewing anytime i needed! my stubby holder on my coke zero can is from rhyll fishing, a rainbow trout farm on phillip island, everyone who eats fish must go. you catch your own fish, then cook it yourself or they cook it for you.

well, after some trouble shooting, pauses for gossip girl and lunch i finally completed my first cuff! i plan on making lots more and selling them on my etsy store. i have a store at the moment, it's empty but i plan on making a new one with the same name as my blog so its easier for people to remember. i also made a headband, i'll post pictures of that another day. i'm pretty happy how the cuff turned out, but i need more buckles! i didnt realise how hard it would be to find decent sized and styled ones. the one i used today was of an old belt from the salvo's but they are pretty expensive for an opp shop. well here's my cuff:

i don't usually like snake pattern and such, but i loved the colour so much i couldn't resist. plus i thought a clutch with this leather would look amazing. that sort of tacky but to-die-for kind of thing. the background colour is actually another piece of leather i have, it's so soft. i'm pretty happy with the outcome being my first one, i can only get better from here. plus im such a perfectionist and can get really grumpy if one little thing isn't right, i know they will just get better. can't wait until i make enough to put up for sale, then sell them, then buy more gorgeous leathers. how excitement.

i wish.

i was trolling through my favourite site for bankruptcy, etsy, and decided that i want to make a feature wall. a feature wall of clocks! i told ben (my partner) and he seemed less than pleased, as our clock from ikea likes to make sure it gets noticed by its tick tocking. although i prefer this excuse then him interrogating me where i would put them all. i get this from him everytime i want to purchase a new frame, painting, table tennis table, air hockey table..

bah, details... buy now, fit later.

i do although love how my walls are set up in the lounge room. on my left i have a collection of nintendo characteture prints from fort awesome studios, my own paintings on skateboard decks, random assortment of other prints (mark ryden for one), ikea clock and my favourite vintage floral plate with 'shithead' painted on it from trixie delicious (which was actually my first etsy purchase ever).

then in front of me, i have our tv mounted on the wall. then to my right my 3ft fish tank surrounded by an angelique houtkamp print 'cornelia' and my all time favourite movie poster japanese edition, labyrinth. david bowie is the dreamiest goblin king ever. then behind me i have a montage of frames housing numerous disney posters from japan. i have heaps more i need to frame though but i try to hold off going to ikea until i have a herald worthy parchment with my list of must-buys.

'need' and 'want' are not part of my vocabulary, its only 'must'.

it's no secret that i love ikea. it may be a new information to you but its no secret. i get excited when the new catalogue comes out and my house wouldnt look like a stranger if it was in the catalogue itself. i spend hours in the display store.

i mean hours. four at least.

then i go crazy in the market hall, but i stay composed, although im pretty sure my partner would love to have a pair of magic handcuffs from my pet monster on hand.

which brings me to why im writing this post. i use the iconic billy bookcase from ikea as a shoe shelf. its perfect. i decided to use the bookcase after numerous attempts and failures at finding a stable and aesthetically pleasing one. ive made a conclusion that this was because i kept buying cheap ones. but these are my shoes im looking to house! the ikea one works so well because of the adjustable shelves. but ive run out of room. aghast! my partner actually has the same bookcase for his shoes. ( i know! shock horror! a guy, with more than one pair of shoes! )

ive actually started to take over his bookcase with my boots. .. oops. we have a small house, so another bookcase is out of the question.

then again, we dont really need a kitchen right?

internet + boredom = less money.

i was searching through eBay for new iphone covers and found some clear ones, which triggered my memory of some amazing artist iphone skins. à la audrey kawasaki, stella im hultberg and kukula via gelaskins. i couldnt remember the website at the time, so i just googled 'iphone skins'. in one of the description lines i saw the word 'custom' and just freaked. i could have my own photo? no way! amazing. so i did some sluething to find the better deals and came across unique skins. for only US$6.99 + postage i could have my beautiful sherlock (photo above) on my iphone. other sites were around $15-$20 + postage. i found it quite amusing trying out photos deciding on the one i wanted. it took quite a while. but i settled on my puppy chewing on some money.

maybe i should call her boredom, they both seem to eat my money away.

in the december edition of shop til you drop i came across a backstage photo of andrew gn's spring 2009 collection (the yellow one to be exact). it's printed in the 'shopping spree: dressed to thrill' article. that article i might add showcases tons of gorgeous dresses i wish could be inserted into my warddrobe but i think i will just have to cut them out and sticky tape them myself, as that might be the only realistic way i could wear them all.

but back to andrew gn. i fell in love with that tiny photo in those glossy pages because it incorporates everything i love right now. lace. jewel tones. large embellished bib necklaces. did you know andrew gn actually creates his own buttons and embellishments in-house. amazing. he is singapore born and is now based in paris. his handwork couture comes at a fancy price so i'll share with you some more budget friendly jewelled necklaces and such i have on my wishlist.

giles spring 2009

after his post about nintendo gadgets and returning home after a midnight launch for a new game (modern warfare 2) it inspired me for a new post. the midnight launch itself wasnt as exciting as i thought it would be, although i only have 3 others to compare it to. the first one was for the wii, which was i guess boring apart from the fact that the security gaurds kept telling us to enter via different entry points... which also happen to be on opposite sides of the shopping mall. so after lots of walking back and forth and a ride in the security mini car, we just sat around and waited. the second one is my favourite, not for the game but for the cupcake overdose i nearly induced. nom nom nom. the third we went a bit late and it was pouring with rain, no one was there and they were closing up. although because him is a regular they let us in and also questioned as to his whereabouts, saying 'its not a launch without you there'. laugh. then there was the one tonight. standing in line. fun. with a drunk girl protesting with one of the clerks that she SWEARS she would trade her mobile for his mario hat. he didnt because clearly he wouldnt be up for the employee of the month running if he did. and she wasnt super model.

i have a very love hate relationship with spring. i love spring because i am able to wear brights and florals and not look like i'm the odd one out. i wear them all year long. its also great because shops will actually stock new prints and styles. but what i'm not to fond of is the heat. i'm not a heat person yet so many people are and they think i'm crazy. in winter you can layer up, wear beatiful tights, longer sleeves with lace tops, coats and scarves. in summer, well theres not much you can do to dress down. you cant wear a bikini to the corner store, right? although i dont go out much and i still wear tights and cardigans in 40 degree heat. so i guess i should rejoice for all the new florals available for my wardrobe.
